Crime Solvers Anonymous releases Crime of the Month list

Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous have released this month’s list of Crimes of the Month, a program that offers a cash reward to citizens able to provide information regarding certain unsolved crimes.

Athens Police are looking for information about a shooting that occurred on North Congress Street on Dec. 20, 2011.

According to a news release, the intruders allegedly broke into the house occupied by a husband and wife. One of the intruders allegedly hit the husband with a pipe and the other shot him in the leg with a “small-caliber pistol,” according to the release.

While one of the intruders allegedly plundered about $1,500 in possessions from the house, the other allegedly stayed back to tie up the husband and wife, according to the release.

The intruders left with both husband and wife bound on their own floor. The husband was treated at O’Bleness and was released shortly after, according to the release.

“One intruder was described as 5’10” tall and approximately 200 pounds while the second intruder was described as being taller, approximately 6’00” and fairly skinny,” the release said. Both wore gloves and masks.

Nelsonville Police are looking for information regarding the theft of copper tubing from a building on Railroad Street that was part of the Nelsonville ice skating rink. The tubing was owned by the Nelsonville Chamber of Commerce, according to the release.

The third Crime of the Month, which is being investigated by the Athens County Sheriff's Office, involves the fatal stabbing of James Braden McLain, 43, on April 12, 2011 at 5225 Gun Club Rd., New Marshfield, Ohio.

McClain had multiple stab and slash wounds in the head and neck region. No suspects have been named, according to the report, however, it is believed that there were two people present at the scene when the murder occurred.

An unknown person called in bomb threats to Nelsonville-York City Schools last November. The release said a note was placed in the girls’ restroom at Nelsonville-York High School on Nov. 11 and just five days later, a threat was made by phone for another bomb threat. The threats were “unfounded” but did disturb school and cause panic, according to the release.

Crime Solvers Anonymous is offering $2,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the perpetrators of these crimes. Crime Solvers Anonymous said the $2,000 reward is not the only reward it gives out and would be willing to give out rewards for other information for crimes not named in the Crime of the Month release.

The release said Crime Solvers Anonymous does not require a person to identify themself and can be reached at (740) 594-3331.
