Ohio University’s Graduate Student Senate came to a resolution at Monday night’s meeting to allocate funding to the History Graduate Student Association for its 7th National History conference.
Seth Givens, president of the History Graduate Student Association, expressed the association’s need for $200 to provide an honorarium for this year’s keynote speaker, Dr. Jonathan Winkler, an OU alum and associate professor of history at Wright State University.
After receiving a B.A. in 1997 from the OU’s Honors Tutorial College, Winkler received a Ph.D. from Yale University in 2004. He is also the recipient of the 2008 Theodore and Franklin D. Roosevelt Prize in Naval History.
Winkler will discuss various historical topics with attendees as well as his graduate student experiences.
“This conference is a pillar,” Givens said.
“Students need this for professional development, and it gives the history program a good reputation.”
