Ohio University’s Graduate Student Senate will tackle the Athens bus system at tonight’s meeting.
Graduate student Michael Lachman will speak to GSS about his ideas for making bus transportation more accessible to Ohio University students and Athens residents while decreasing the cost of college and increasing job access and community safety.
Right now, Athens has only five separate bus networks running eight routes, including OU’s CATS shuttle, the Go Bus, the Athens Transit and three apartment complex shuttles — for The Summit, University Courtyard and University Commons.
Lachman proposes a single coordinated bus system be implemented that will serve OU’s campus and the Athens area. The single system aims to bring additional benefits such as decreasing drunk driving by lessening student’s reliance on cars for transportation.
GSS will meet at 7 p.m. today in 235 Walter Hall.
