Pitching in for gas money may become a thing of the past.
Ohio University’s Graduate Student Senate will come to a resolution regarding its support for a new bus system at its meeting tonight.
At the last GSS meeting Michael Lachman, a graduate student pursing a masters degree in environmental studies, gave a presentation to GSS at its last meeting in an effort to gain support for his plans to reform the Athens County bus system.
Lachman’s goal is to create a unified bus system that would eliminate the disconnect present with the current Athens bus systems. Lachman’s plan aims to work with current bus services to create a coordinated bus schedule, universal fares, and longer weekend and evening hours. He said the new system would benefit both OU students and Athens residents.
The increased access to bus transportation, as a result of the plan, would provide several benefits, from increased job access to a reduced carbon footprint, Lachman said.
“This could be something that could appeal to the student community,” he said.
GSS will meet at 7 p.m. today in 127 Morton Hall.
