Guest stars crash country rockers' party at MemAud

Despite Lee Brice’s recent trouble caused by his bus catching on fire this past Saturday, country rockers Jerrod Niemann and Brice followed through with their promise of a party-filled night, even bringing along a few surprise guests.

“This was actually my first show opening with Niemann and Brice,” said Chris Cavanaugh, country singer and concert opener. “I hope it’s not the last.”

The four-and-a-half-hour show was hosted by local radio station Froggy and included openers Cavanaugh and the Rumple Three Skins.

“The bands were having as much fun on stage as we were out in the crowd,” said Sara Dixon, a freshman studying communications. “It was a night to remember, full of good music and great memories.”

Andrew Holzaepfel, associate director for the Campus Involvement Center, said the center sold a total of 1,200 tickets and made a profit of $25,000.

“It was totally worth it,” said Katie Simpson, a freshman studying biology. “It was so much fun. Those guys were all fan-freakin’-tastic.”

Niemann made sure to keep the party going all night as he continued to play songs from his current album Judge Niemann and The Hung Jury. His song choices included his single “Everclear,” “Down in Mexico,” and the award-winning “What Do You Want.”

“It was an amazing collage of musical genius,” said Dusty Eads, a sophomore studying environmental science. “It was the

best concert I’ve been to in a while.”

Brice also contributed to the event’s festivities, giving fans a sneak peek of songs from his up-and-coming album Hard To Love. During his single “Beer,” he and Niemann even shared shots between verses.

“Ohio University, you’re looking danger in the eye and then drinking some beer,” Niemann said between sets.

As he wrapped up the show, Brice expressed how much he enjoyed the Athens crowd.

“You’re great, OU,” Brice said. “It’s been a pleasure playing here, and keep on partying.”
