The first crack in Mill Street's new pavement will be made tonight near the intersection of Mill and Stewart Streets due to a water main break.
"This happens all the time," said Nick Joseph, division of water supervisor for the department of engineer and public works, adding that the last main break happened about three weeks ago.
"We get to tear up Athens' new pavement and give the street its first pot-hole," Joseph said.
The intersection will be closed for four to six hours to fix the broken pipe that is either under Mill or Stewart Street. Water was seeping up into the yard of 131 Mill St. and into the intersection.
