'Post' is erring out its dirty laundry

We all make mistakes. We do.

But as The Post’s copy chief, it’s my job to ensure that the paper is error-free.

I have to manage and train a staff of 20-some people who have vastly varying knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. And it’s not just that. A copy editor has to know pretty much everything about everything.

And don’t even get me started on headlines.

But between you and me (don’t you dare say “you and I” there), it’s one tough task, and even tougher while I try to balance work with school and sleep. Thankfully, The Post’s deadline isn’t until about 7 a.m. (in the morning), so I’m able to catch one or two z’s (more like none at all).

Woe is I. And yes, Shakespeare, that is correct.

As my parents always told me, though: Excuses are like butts — everyone has one. So when we, The Post, make a mistake, we’re not going to make excuses; we’re going to own up to it.

You all are welcome to uncap your red pens, mark up our paper, and then tell us where we went wrong. But remember: To err is human; to forgive, divine.

Won’t you please forgive us?
