Oh c’mon, jealous Jan. 9 letter-writer Barry Thomas of Ohio University’s comfy Academic Kingdom; if “Wins should be motivation for football coach Frank Solich’s paycheck,” then “A’s” should monitor your paycheck. Hey, everyone (else) knows that, outside of million-dollar donations, football revenues are the largest moneymaker for OU. So, why shouldn’t Coach Solich have gotten more than $4 million in his six years at OU? Football is BIG BIZ!
Besides, when you professors are tenured, you get your income, health insurance and “perks” lifelong, and when y’all retire don’t you get 70 percent annually of your top best salary years? Sure beats working for a living.
A better subject than punt-pass-kick Solich’s income is fixing WOUB’s terrible transmission of PBS programs. More frequently since last fall, out-of-state programs experience “no signal” or degraded reception. Why? I’ve complained frequently to WOUB’s program director — to no avail. No reply. Hello, WOUB?
