Student trustees to visit Student Senate as trustee selection draws near

As the next round of student trustee selection approaches, Ohio University’s student trustees will visit Student Senate tonight.

Student Trustees Danielle Parker and Allison Arnold, both juniors studying public relations, will speak to senate regarding the applications for next year’s student trustee positions.

Next year, Arnold will begin her second year as student trustee. The new trustee will replace Parker, who is finishing up her second term.

Senate President Kyle Triplett said he expects Parker and Arnold to address student trustee voting rights, a topic that was resurrected in November with a bill introduced by Ohio Reps. Mike Duffey (R-21) and Michael Stinziano (D-25).

“I’ve always been more cautious toward (voting rights),” said Triplett, a former trustee. “I feel that being on the board — my experience was that I didn’t need to have voting rights, because the voting trustees really take what the student trustees have to say seriously. I always thought it would be a strange conflict of interest.”

Leroy Echelberry, Student Senate president at OU’s Zanesville campus, will also attend tonight’s meeting.

Student Senate will meet at 7:15 p.m. today in 235 Walter Hall.
