BREAKING: Buchtel police chief arrested on drug charges

The Buchtel chief of police was arrested Wednesday after allegedly participating in a drug transaction.

Sheriff’s deputies from the Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested Kelsey Lanning for allegedly participating in a “controlled transaction of prescription pills” at his residence, 432 Fairview Ave. in Nelsonville, according to Sheriff Pat Kelly’s Facebook page.

The Narcotics Enforcement Team obtained a search warrant for Lanning’s residence and executed the transaction; Lanning is accused of purchasing the prescription pills, according to the post.

Lanning has also served as the chief of police for New Straitsville.

“Sheriff Kelly has communicated with Buchtel's Mayor, John L. Sullivan to assure the mayor the village will have protection,” the post states.

Lanning was charged with possession of an illegal narcotic. He is being held at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. He will appear in court via video Thursday morning, according to the post.

Lanning’s 29-year-old girlfriend, Jessica Willison, who lives him, was also arrested for possession, the post states.
