Canine unit arrests recover nearly 300 prescription pills

A canine unit with the Athens County Sheriff's office arrested three people allegedly with illegal drugs in their possession today.

Two West Virginia men were stopped by Reserve Deputy Canine Unit Matt May on State Route 33 today. After the canine, Turner, indicated the vehicle had illegal drugs, 273 prescrption pills were seized, according to a release from Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly.

The occupants of the vehicle, Anthony N. Strickland, 32, and Michael A. Graham, 29, were arrested, charged and taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail, according to the post.

Both were charged with possesion of drugs, according to the jail's website.

The men allegedly confessed to driving from near Charleston, W.Va. to Toledo to purchase the drugs, according to the release.

Earlier, May stopped an Ohio University student and discovered an ecstasy pill in the car he was driving, according to the release.

The name of the student was not released and the case will be given to the Grand Jury, according to the release.
