Golf: Ohio falls short against DePaul, while women underway in Texas

Ohio’s men’s and women’s golf teams saw action this weekend, with the men losing to DePaul to close out match play and the women competing against another squad of Bobcats in Texas State University during the first two rounds of the Claud Jacobs Invitational.

The men’s team lost its second match-play competition Saturday in a 3-2 result against the Blue Demons in Oaktie, S.C.

Ohio fell to DePaul on the last hole of the match.

Senior Paul Grauer and junior Michael Lamping each won matches for the Bobcats.

Coach Bob Cooley said the Bobcats are getting better and that they have been working on their short game in preparation for the upcoming Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate. The Bobcats will remain in South Carolina for the start of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. Ohio will see familiar faces in DePaul and Marshall, who will also be competing in the field of 17 teams.

After the first day of the Claud Jacobs Invitational, the women’s team finished in a tie for 14th place with Eastern Kentucky. Ball State fared the best of the three Mid-American Conference teams after the first day of competition, finishing in eighth place.

Seniors Megan and Meryl Weaver finished with the two best rounds for Ohio in the second round of competition Sunday.

Toledo, the other MAC foe competing in Victoria, Texas, finished the two rounds in 11th place.

The third and final round of the invitational will take place Monday.
