Men's Basketball: Miami coach hospitalized for observation

Miami men's basketball coach Charlie Coles has been hospitalized for "observation and rest due to a virus," according to university officials.

Coles, 70, has been the RedHawks' head coach since 1996 and previously coached at Central Michigan. He has a history of health problems and has had two bypass surgeries. He suffered a heart attack during the 1998 Mid-American Conference tournament, though there is no indication that his current ailment is related to heart health.

Assistant coach Jermaine Henderson will fill in for Coles this Saturday when Miami plays Buffalo.

Ohio closes the regular season at Miami on March 2.

The RedHawks are last in the MAC East with a 9-17 record, including a 5-8 mark in conference play.
