Four lip-synching groups will glam-up the Baker University Center Ballroom stage Friday, battling each other to meet the stars of the week: Big K.R.I.T. and Dom Kennedy.
So yOU think you’re famous?? is organized by the Black Student Cultural Programming Board for Sibs Weekend.
“(This event is) a great way to showcase talent and have fun here at Ohio University,” said Seyi Odunaiya, the board’s president. “It’s your chance to show off but there will be other acts from the school that are performing in between each number.”
The competition’s name was inspired by the television show, So You Think You Can Dance.
“(So yOU think you’re famous??) really is a hit,” Odunaiya said. “Everyone has always enjoyed it and it’s a great way to get your sibs excited for the upcoming weekend.”
Songs this year include Kanye West, Janet Jackson and a track from Sister Act Two, “Joyful Joyful.” As the participants perform each song, the music video for that song plays on the big screen behind them.
“(My team) better win,” said Audree Bunkley, a freshman studying psychology and contest competitor. “I really want to meet (Big K.R.I.T. and Dom Kennedy).”
The contestants will perform for three judges — Kellea Tibbs, an OU graduate student, Kevin Hills, an OU alum and Ashli Walters, a previous So yOU think you’re famous?? champion. The trio will evaluate the groups based on costumes, creativity and overall performance.
“But, I also heard that they were really hard to impress which makes me feel like we need a lot more practice,” Amber Alexander, a freshman studying middlechild education and competition participant said.
