This week's papers were particularly strong design-wise, from the front page to the back page. The design staff has been even better about trying to include a visual element with each story, and the result of that is a paper that's easier to read. Most importantly, it creates a paper that gives the reader more information at a glance.
This week saw a lot of photo-based front pages. But the play of them was especially strong. The photos on Wednesday's front page work together very well, moving the reader's eye around the page and into the stories. Monday and Friday's papers added additional information to a photo-based centerpiece that gave the reader even more information to make sense of the story, such as the list of changes to Chauncey Elementary School in Friday's paper.
However, Tuesday's paper was especially strong inside and out. Every single story in the paper had at least one visual element. Therefore, the Pick of the Week for Week 8 goes to the team that put that paper together: Linley Myers, Jake Newton and Brooke Baldi. This paper was a great example of how to problem-solve and visually convey the message of the story (every story!)
