Democrats, please, for Athens County, for yourselves, for your fellow citizens, for our party, vote, on or before the March 6 primary, to nominate Mike O’Brien as a Democratic party candidate for Athens County Commissioner.
First, Mike understands the importance of a more extensive system of rural public transportation. This understanding, together with his extensive experience in manufacturing and his stint as a small business owner, makes him the candidate most qualified to further employment opportunities in Athens County.
Second, his rejection of the myth that the commissioners can do nothing about “fracking” puts him head and shoulders above the other candidates.
Third, his efforts on behalf of the president four years ago and his day after day, door-to-door campaigning in support of the referendum rejecting Senate Bill 5 mark him as a steadfast advocate for just causes.
I was privileged to acquire a glancing acquaintance with Mike during the presidential election in 2008. In recent months, I have been honored to be able to get to know him better. I know, in my bones, that Mike will work hard — and intelligently — every day as an effective full-time commissioner.
Bill Safranek resides in Athens.
