Sibs Weekend: Alumnus continues tradition of treating crowds to top talent

For the past four years, an Ohio University alumnus has brought crowds to their feet during Ohio University’s Sibs Weekend.

The Black Student Cultural Programming Board began selecting DJ Vic Van Exel Moore in 2009 based on his previous experiences after sharing the stage with artists such as Big Sean and Wiz Khalifa.

“It’s always been fun for me from the second I get back to campus,” Moore said. “It’s a great opportunity and I have the chance to meet all these artist that I’m a huge fan of.”

Winsome Chunnu-Brayda, the board’s adviser and associate director of the Multicultural Center, said Moore is the obvious choice because of his unique abilities, experience and familiarity with the Sibs Weekend stage.

“His experience and familiarity with the stage and the audience makes him the perfect candidate,” he said.

The Cincinnati-based DJ started his hip-hop career in high school, which finally took off once he began studying aviation at OU.

He and two of his colleagues, Landen Rosé Seayand Marcus Moore also created the La Lucrative Culture Music Group about six months ago. They hope to produce and sell music of any genre, including their own.

“We just pride ourselves on our abilities, unique sound and professional quality,” Moore said. “We pretty much play and make all genres of music and use a large assortment of instruments to make amazing music.”

Moore attributes his success to his experiences as a DJ and at Sibs Weekend itself.

“I just want to branch out and play at larger shows,” Moore said. “I have to say though, Sibs Weekend has helped me do that.”
