Student Senate: Exec board highlights latest projects for Winter Quarter

About 3,200 tickets were sold for the fast-approaching Wiz Khalifa concert as of Monday morning, which is more than the number of people who attended last year’s B.o.B. concert, Ohio University Student Senate President Kyle Triplett said at a news conference Monday.

“As far as numbers go, this is the largest event that Student Senate has ever been involved in,” Triplett said.

Triplett also discussed the Bobcat Readership Program, a program that offers students free copies of The New York Times and USA Today. The program is in the middle of its four-week pilot and Triplett will be meeting with USA Today representatives Wednesday to discuss its progress.

“The past few weeks, they’ve been monitoring paper usage,” Triplett said. “At the beginning of the program, they had no idea how many papers were going to be picked up, but now that it’s halfway over, they’ll have some numbers and have more of a solid (price).”

Also highlighted was Senate’s safety campaign, “Lifelines of Safety,” which will start tweeting again after being on hiatus during winter break. Senate will use @ safetythOUghts to tweet out safety facts and tips every other day, said Tony Koehling, public relations representative.

Koehling and Victoria Calderon, senate’s commissioner of women’s affairs, are putting together a presentation in which they will discuss safety tips as well as statistics and facts to promote safety on campus.

“One of our key missions is to improve the overall safety of our campus and hopefully this is a big step in that direction,” Koehling said.
