Student Senate to partner with Women's Center for sexual assault awareness

Student Senate's “Lifelines to Safety” program is hoping to add advocacy to its sexual assault awareness efforts.

Tony Koehling and Victoria Calderon gave a presentation to Ohio University’s Student Senate Wednesday on the progress of the program, which was started last quarter.

The program was designed to prevent sexual assault on campus and advocate for sexual assault victims.

(Sexual assault) is talked about very little on college campuses,” Calderon said, adding that this is just what the program hopes to improve upon.

OU's Women’s Center has also partnered with the group, adding the Survivor Advocacy Program to the mix, which would serve as a support group for victims and survivors of sexual assault.

Dean of Students Ryan Lombardi has offered to host an event where all the major student organizations would be introduced to the organization.

The event is “intended to be proactive,” Student Senate President Kyle Triplett said.
