Insomnia Cookies offers delivery of its sugary snacks as late as 3 a.m.

Cookie delivery shop rounds out late-night scene

On Monday, more than 500 people indulged their sweet teeth with a sugary confection from the newest addition to Court Street.

Insomnia Cookies, 27 N. Court St., debuted its baked goods at its Athens location’s grand opening by doling out more than 300 coupons for free cookies.

The new establishment, which has been in the works for about six months, is one of two Insomnia Cookie locations in Ohio, with the other residing on Ohio State University’s campus. It is one of 20 locations nationwide.

The cookie company began in 2003 with its first location at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

Insomnia Cookies offers brownies and cookie cakes in addition to individual cookies. However, it is best known for its late-night deliveries.

“It was basically built on the idea that, late at night when you’re craving that food, there’s really nothing available to you, so they offered a solution to fill that hunger,” said Renee Sarnecky, marketing manager at Serve U Brands, which coordinates publicity for Insomnia Cookies.

Insomnia Cookies will deliver as late as 3 a.m.

April Laissle, a freshman studying journalism, said she anticipates ordering some of the late-night confections as late as 1 or 2 a.m.

“They stay open late, and it’s really hard to find things that stay open late and deliver in Athens,” Laissle said.

Sarnecky said Ohio University’s campus was chosen as the second location in Ohio for Insomnia Cookies because of its college-town allure.

“Basically, the college is exactly the atmosphere we were looking for,” Sarnecky said. “It’s just a perfect location for us.”

Anthony Griffith, regional manager at Insomnia Cookies, said the cookie company typically targets major universities located in areas with high population density, adding that he is excited for the new location in Athens.

“It’s going to kind of add to the late-night culture,” Griffith said. “Because Athens is synonymous with the late-night attitude.”
