Ohio projects team up to revitalize historic Nelsonville

As part of its continuing efforts to attract tourists to the city, Nelsonville Main Street is collaborating and expanding with Project to Restore America to hold a Vision Forum at Stuart’s Opera House.

“Like the training I completed for Heritage Ohio, I think this forum will foster excitement among businesses and citizens to join the Nelsonville Main Street in restoring the historic town,” said Lynn Garbo, director of Nelsonville Main Street.

Earlier this month, Nelsonville Main Street began working on several projects aimed at revitalizing and preserving the historic city of Nelsonville, including one initiative to hang promotional banners. After six months, the banners were installed March 19.

The Project to Restore America was founded by a group of men and women who grew up in Coshocton, Ohio, where their parents owned small businesses. The mission of the project fits with the mission of Heritage Ohio and Nelsonville Main Street, Garbo said.

“They started the project to restore America one town at a time. One of their goals is to bring attention to the historic towns with history and deeply rooted local businesses,” Garbo said. “Some of these buildings go back 100 years, so it is my hope that these will be restored into the shopping areas they once were.”

The free forum is designed to bring local businesses, citizens and city officials together to inspire and collaborate for ideas and goals to support Nelsonville Main Street and to make Nelsonville a destination for tourists and visitors for years to come.
