Ohio University students travelled almost 400 miles Thursday in protest of job opportunities.
A total of 41 students from OU’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine are attending the 13th annual D.O. Day on Capitol Hill Wednesday, according to an OU-HCOM news release.
These students will advocate for residencies in the osteopathic medicine field to match the growing number of graduates.
“As medical students, we sometimes feel like we don’t have a say,” said Cassandra Adams, president of the OU-HCOM chapter of the Student Osteopathic Medical Association. “But actually, going to the Hill and meeting with representatives gives us a voice. We do have a say in the future of our field.”
In Washington, osteopathic representatives are participating in a legislative briefing, attending meetings with Congress members and their staff and reporting results in a debriefing room, according to the event’s website.
Last year, OU-HCOM awarded 109 medical degrees.
