I read with interest the March 2 article by Nick Robbe, “Bygone Bobcat turns her college sport into a major family affair.” In the first paragraph, he suggests a banner should hang atop the Convocation Center rafters with the name of former basketball star Caroline Mast (now Caroline Mast Daugherty).
Several years ago, I spoke with a former athletic media relations staff member, making such a suggestion. It was noted that an NCAA women’s basketball website reporting NCAA career leaders listed Caroline Mast as 25th all-time in total points plus rebounds. These combined numbers (2,449 points and 1,223 rebounds) far surpass those of any MAC woman players.
This achievement deserves recognition of the highest level, and hanging her banner only adds to the richness of Ohio University Athletics. I hope it happens.
