Student Senate discusses fest 'rehydration stations' at quarter's first meeting

Though weeks away, Ohio University’s Student Senate had their minds focused on fest season at the first meeting of the quarter last night.

Senators made plans for their fest “rehydration stations” which will feature water and Goodfella’s pizza this year, said Mary Kate Gallgher, senate’s city and county commissioner.

“(Fest safety) is definitely something (senate) should be concerned about,” senate President Kyle Triplett said. “OU’s our home. We’re all graduating from here. Every student here at OU has invested interest. You should have fun, but you shouldn’t do it irresponsibly.”

Gallagher, who has previously had trouble securing volunteers, asked senate to work more hours than years past. She’s requiring each commissioner to volunteer at least one hour, a request that Triplett said is acceptable.

“She’s done all this work,” Triplett added. “She’s very dedicated to this. Asking for one hour of your time is not excessive.”

Gallagher estimates the fest program to require at least 106 “people hours.”

Senate’s fest safety program is funded entirely by the Division of Student Affairs.
