Alden updates Internet ahead of schedule

With Alden Library reaching it’s WiFi capacity on an almost daily basis, Ohio University has upgraded Alden’s new wireless Internet system four days ahead of schedule.

“We wanted to get it online as soon as we could,” said IT Communications Manager Sean O’Malley. “The overcapacity issues were continuing (in Alden) and as soon as we were ready to get it online we wanted to, which is why we are doing it today.”

The new system will come online at 1:00 p.m., according to a university email.

“The first time students go into one of the new coverage areas, they will need to tell their device to connect to ‘OHIO’ University,” O’Malley said. “In most cases they won’t be able to see the old wireless network.”

The NextGen wireless Internet will be implemented at Baker University Center and Stocker Center on April 30.

“I am really excited to get the new wireless up and running,” O’Malley said.
