One week after celebrating it’s 75th Anniversary, Ohio University’s College of Fine Arts announced Tuesday that an interim dean has been chosen.
Madeleine Scott, director of dance and interim director of theatre in the college, will take over July 1 for the 2012-2013 fiscal year.
Scott will replace current dean, Charles McWeeny, who announced in early March that he would be stepping down June 30 to return as a faculty member to work as an artist and teacher in the ceramics program.
McWeeny has been in the dean’s office for 11 years, spending the last seven as dean and previous four as associate dean. His current salary is $186,877.
Scott has spent the past 15 years as director of dance and has been the interim director of theatre since 2010.
Her current salary is $106,470.
“The provost selected Professor Scott because she had extensive administrative experience not only within the college but also across the university,” said Ann
Fidler, chief of staff to OU Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit.Scott came to OU in 1980 and was selected to participate in the HERS Bryn Mawr Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration last year.
During her career, she has been a recipient of both the University Professor Award and the Ohio Dance Outstanding Teacher Award.
A search for a permanent dean is expected to begin in the fall and Scott is eligible to be a candidate for the position if she decides to apply, Fidler said.
Although Scott is expected to occupy the position for the full year, it is possible that a permanent dean will be named during the 2012-2013 academic year, she said.
The office plans to appoint a dean by July 1, 2013, Fidler said.
“(The provost’s office will) work over the summer to recruit candidates and be ready to go in the fall,” Fidler said.
Currently the office is working to replace six other administrative positions that need to be filled including deans for the Scripps College of Communication and the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine.
