The Athens County Commissioners scheduled a special meeting this afternoon
to discuss the resignation of Corey Lenigar, Director of the County’s Emergency
Medical Service (EMS).
Lenigar released a letter announcing his resignation, saying, “I feel I have done the best job that I could do given the situation and the restraints.”
Lenigar will not attend the meeting, which has been scheduled for 1 p.m. today in room 234 of the Courthouse Annex on Court Street.
“It is obvious to me that I will never meet the expectations you gentlemen have for the position I took,” Lenigar said.
Lenigar’s resignation came as no surprise to several Athens city commissioners,
including Commissioner Larry Payne.
“It’s probably for the best that we go in separate directions,” Payne said. “One of
the biggest issues Lenigar had was implementing training programs and a lack of communication.”
The appointment of an interim EMS director and a discussion about EMS issue has been placed on Thursday’s agenda, Payne said.
“I don’t want to go over what we did or didn’t do,” Payne said. “We just need to
move on and work on the issue at hand.”
The resignation will be put into effect Monday, April 23.
