OU-HCOM, OhioHealth team up in preparation for Dublin branch

In preparation for its branch in Dublin, Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is securing partners.

OU-HCOM has decided to join forces with OhioHealth, a partnership that in one way or another has existed for over 35 years, said Jack Brose, the college’s dean.

The partnership will encourage OhioHealth and OU-HCOM to share resources to increase OU-HCOM’s research capabilities and provide access to OhioHealth’s 2,000 physicians, said Brose.

“OhioHealth is an outstanding system,” he said. “It has some very large hospitals and community hospitals and really runs that kind of medical care and allows student opportunities to a number of different levels of medical care.”

Brose hopes this will strengthen and from partnerships in the Columbus area, such as Mount Carmel, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Ohio State University.

“OhioHealth has long benefitted from its relationship with Ohio University and College of Osteopathic Medicine,” Bruce Vanderhoff, senior vice president and chief medical officer for OhioHealth.  “I think that by deepening that partnership we stand to even greater benefits.”

OU-HCOM hopes to educate more students and keep them in the state, Brose said.

“This is a significant development for the Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Ohio University and it will help to strengthen the health care in central Ohio,” OU President Roderick McDavis said.
