The sun was shining, the breeze was gentle and 45 students swarmed over the miniature-golf course cleaning, weeding, painting and planting. I want to thank Thomas Raabe, the other Athens Beautification Day organizers and the many cheerfully energetic students who devoted their time to improving our community.
Putt People First is now ready to open for the season, beginning Saturday at noon. The proceeds from the sponsorships and fees for the course benefit people with disabilities through Havar, Inc., and conflict resolution work through the Athens Area Mediation Service, while also providing some employment for people with disabilities.
We want to offer a free round of miniature golf to all students who participated in Beautification Day on any of the sites and projects. Just mention that you were a volunteer and there will be no charge for your golf this weekend.
Anyone looking for a fun activity for Moms Weekend should come check us out.
Details are on our Facebook page.
I appreciate the efforts of everyone involved in Beautification Day!
John Schmieding is the co-director of Putt People First and resides in Athens.
