Presidential candidate outlines yOU's objectives

Two days before students take to the polls to vote in new student leaders, Student Senate presidential candidate Tony Koehling rallied his ticket on the second floor of Baker University Center.

Koehling outlined the party’s goals and explained how they plan to win the election Thursday.

“I wanted to support a president candidate and ticket that would have a better OU experience,” said Joel Newby, yOU’s graduate student representative.

Koehling introduced each of his commissioners and described why they would be a good fit for the position if elected.

“When we talk to other students, they like that we aren’t just passing things out to students,” said Eric Walborn, yOU’s College of Education candidate. “Our main focus is to represent students.”

A video series by yOU that addressed OU’s lack of identity also ended Tuesday.

The series was sparked by a comment made by REACH presidential candidate Zach George at a Board of Elections debate when he said that the university needs to decide on a more cohesive image when making future decisions.

“I think that the words ‘identity crisis’ are being taken out of context from the yOU party,” George said. “All of us can agree that whether or not, we’re getting too caught up in the semantics. Tuition is going up. Administration and faculty are unhappy. Call it identity crisis, call it whatever you want. It’s been taken out of context.”

Koehling also described his party’s general goals that have been criticized by competitors and the media.

“Once elected, we will develop concrete goals to talk to administrators,” Koehling said. “I promise you, we will be both present and productive.”
