Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine is one step closer to securing a replacement dean for retiring Jack Brose.
The provost’s office has named four finalists to replace Brose, whose last day is July 1. Brose makes $216, 373.
The finalists will visit OU’s campus to meet with administrators, faculty and staff as well as OU-HCOM students beginning May 29.
“I think they’re all fantastic,” said Ann Fidler, chief of staff to Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit. “I’m very excited. All of them are highly experienced and have a lot of engaging qualities, which I think the college needs.”
The nationwide search, which began after Brose announced his retirement in September 2011, has cost the university $28,538 to date after the second round of interviews finished last week in Columbus.
Robert Cain, director of Medical Education at Grandview Medical Center, will be interviewed May 31 and June 1. Cain has served as chairman on state and local medical organizations, including the Ohio Osteopathic Directors of Medical Education and as chairman of the strategic planning committee for the Centers for Osteopathic Research and Education.
Cain, a 1988 OU graduate, said he is looking forward to coming back to Athens.
“Grandview has given me the opportunity to deal with diverse faculty members here at school, and that’s been a great learning ground to have different and collaborative ways to build strong teams,” Cain said. “I’ll have that experience to take to Athens.”
Bryan Martin is the associate dean of Graduate Medical Education at Ohio State University. Martin is the chair of the professional council at the Wexner Medical Center and treasurer of the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology. He will interview May 29 and 30.
Kenneth Johnson is the associate dean for educational programs and vice dean at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford, Maine. Johnson also has served as the associate dean of clinical education and interim associate dean of clinical affairs. He will interview June 4 and 5.
Joseph Johnson is the chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences in Tulsa. Johnson also has served on the Alabama State Board of Osteopathic Medicine. He will interview June 6 and 7.
