University confirms lease talks for vacant uptown building

This fall, Lindley Hall may no longer be Ohio University’s furthest building on South Court Street.

OU officials confirmed they are in negotiation to lease 31 S. Court St. by fall semester for office and academic purposes, said Donna Goss, director of engagement and real estate management.

The structure, next to Bagel Street Deli, was previously the Woolworth building. Though it has apartments on the upper floor, it has two other levels that have been vacant for years. The university is still negotiating which floors it will rent, Goss said.

“There’s not a designated classroom space at this time, but the plans are still in flux,” Goss added.

The university has been negotiating with building owners, the Gilee Group, LLC for the past three weeks, she said.

”The location is great because of the proximity to the university,” Goss said. “It gives the university an opportunity, as a community, an initiative to get staff and faculty in the area to stimulate existing businesses and inspire others to move to Court Street.”
