A thunderstorm that swept through Athens Wednesday afternoon left some without power not long after having it restored.
As of 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, more than 1,300 Athens residents — more than 5 percent of American Electric Power customers — were without power, according to AEP.
At the beginning of July, a large portion of Ohio was without power, and Gov. John Kasich declared a state of emergency.
Ohio University opened Baker University Center in order to provide relief and also housed AEP workers and students while the power was being restored.
