After thirty years of discussing health-related topics, Family Health, an Athens-based radio program, is going off the air.
The radio program is recorded in Ohio University’s Radio Television Building and hosted by assistant OU professor Harold Thompson. It will no longer be recording its 2.5 minute segments due to a lack of funding.
Family Health has been fundraising for the past three years to raise enough money, Thompson said.
“We thought it made a good impact to those who listened,” said Thompson, who hosted for 13 years. “It’s very disappointing that we can’t continue.”
Thompson recorded five days a week, about 250-260 shows a year. The show reached about 12-15 million people on about 300 radio stations, he said.
Family Health discussed health-related topics such as diet, exercise and medicine, Thompson said.
