Two Ohio University students were robbed at gunpoint Friday night at a Summit at Coates Run apartment.
The victims reported to the Athens Police Department that two male subjects had just left the area and were possibly headed to Columbus.
An automatic pistol was used during the robbery, said Lt. Jeff McCall of Athens Police.
APD said the Athens County Sheriff’s Office located the vehicle traveling west on Route 33 near The Plains, according to an APD press release, also stating that at around 6 p.m., deputies from the sheriff’s office turned the two subjects over to local police.
The subjects were found with the pistol and a .45 caliber gun that was stolen from the apartment, McCall said. The gun and other stolen items, which were not detailed, were recovered.
Suspects Domeion Mayo and Adam Lawson, both 24, were each charged with two counts of aggravated robbery and two counts of abduction. Both were incarcerated at Southeast Ohio Regional Jail before their arraignment Monday morning before an Athens County Municipal Court Judge.
The potential sentencing and outcome of the charges is up to the courts to decide, McCall said, but it will likely end in a plea agreement.
