Athens County has one of the highest percentages without power in Ohio and Ohio University will be housing American Electric Power to aid the restoration process, officials said.
More than 20 percent of Athens County is without power after the storm last Friday that put Ohio in a state of emergency by Gov. John Kasich.
OU has offered rooms in Bromley Hall to 130-150 AEP workers for Friday and Saturday nights, said Ryan Lombardi, interim vice president for Student Affairs.
“I’m glad to get them in there and give them space so they can hopefully restore power in Athens,” Lombardi said.
Since Saturday night, OU also has offered rooms, free of charge, to students who live off-campus and are without power.
