"Star Trek: The Next Generation" restored, returns for 25th anniversary

Fans of the series Star Trek: The Next Generation will once again be able to go, boldly, where no man has gone before.

For one night only July 23 at 7 p.m., the Athena Grand will be showing two restored episodes of the series for Star Trek: The Next Generation 25th Anniversary Event.

Sponsored by NCM Fathom Events, along with CBS TV and Paramount Home Media Distribution, the event will include the restored editions of episode five, “Where No Man Has Gone Before” and episode 12, “Datalore” from season one. Additionally, it will include exclusive looks at the behind-the-scenes process of restoration of footage from season one, new interviews from cast members and a feature on the FX elements and photography of the show.

Also included will be a sneak-peak at the restoration of episode nine, “The Measure of a Man,” from season two.

The Next Generation series is timeless. It’s hard to believe 25 years have gone by since this iconic show premiered on television,” said Shelley Maxwell, executive vice president of NCM Fathom Events. “This special event celebrates the magic that made this beloved series so memorable.”

This event will also celebrate the release of the first season on Blu-Ray, which will be available for purchase July 24.

“We’re thrilled to be able to introduce Star Trek: The Next Generation to a new generation,” said Ken Ross, executive vice president and general manager of CBS Home Entertainment. “Seeing the episodes in a theater setting is the perfect way to show off the pristine picture that high definition allows and launch the first season on Blu-Ray.”

Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased either at the box office or online at the Fathom Events website or the Athena Grand website.

“It has a large following of fans who now will get a chance to see their favorite show on the big screen,” said Rick Frame, general manager of the Athena Grand.

Star Trek: The Next Generation, created by Gene Roddenberry, became the longest-running series of the Star Trek franchise, running from 1987-1994 with seven seasons, 178 episodes and five films.
