An Athens man pleads guilty to producing child pornography

An Athens man could spend 25 years in prison after pleading guilty in a federal court Friday to producing child pornography.

In a plea agreement, Jason Hutchinson, 41, admitted to using a webcam to film himself and a 13-year-old engaging in various sexual acts at his Athens residence in 2010 and to sending the video to a known sex offender in Boston.

When the FBI executed a search warrant at the Boston sex offender’s house in February 2011, agents discovered two videos and numerous pictures of Hutchinson engaging in sexual acts with minors.

Hutchinson was arrested on March 16 and was originally charged with two counts of producing and one count of possessing child pornography. If he had been convicted of all three charges at trial, Hutchinson could have been sentenced to 70 years in prison.

Hutchinson pleaded guilty to one count of using a minor to engage in sexually explicit conduct for the purpose of producing a visual depiction of the conduct, according to a press release from United States Attorney, Carter M. Stewart.

The suggested sentence in the plea agreement is 20–25 years in prison.

Hutchinson’s sentence has yet to be determined.
