Agenda preview for City Council meeting tonight

Following last week’s presentation made by the Athens County Commissioners, Athens City Council’s Planning and Development Committee will be discussing the prospective US 50 Corridor Wastewater Facilities on Monday night.

The wastewater linkage would make possible annexation of county property by the city a much easier process, said commissioner Lenny Eliason, D.

“This is a win-win for the county and the city,” said Eliason. “We want to make sure we have an agreement that is fair for both sides.”

With concerns about zoning requirements and potential sanitation issues city council needs to hold significant discussion, said councilwoman Chris Fahl, D-4th Ward.

“I think there are a lot more planning issues that can be brought up,” Fahl said.  “We need to have much more discussion.

Council’s Finance and Personnel Committee will be discussing the budget timeline and potential appropriations.  These appropriations include funds needed to maintain the city’s streetlights for the remainder of the year.

The necessary amount of money is estimated to be $20,000, said Mayor Paul Wiehl.

The City and Safety Services Committee is scheduled to discuss new business at Monday night’s meeting at 7 p.m. at the City Building.
