Ohio University’s Black Student Cultural Programming Board is once again creating virtual waves after announcing on Twitter that its annual concert will be moved to Halloween weekend.
“We’re moving our Sibs Weekend concert to the fall because we have the (Spring Convo concert) already,” said Winsome Chunnu-Brayda, the group’s advisor and associate director of the Multicultural Center. “We were looking to see that students would have a big concert in the fall and another big concert in the spring to look forward to.”
BSCPB’s annual concert was previously held at the beginning of Spring Quarter, but with the change to semesters, the board decided to select a new date: Oct. 26.
“We just wanted to change the date mainly because we’re on semesters now and we really don’t want to do two concerts back-to-back,” said Seyi Odunaiya, the board’s president, also referring to the Spring Convo Concert. “It’d be a lot better if we had one Fall Semester and one Spring Semester.”
Chunnu-Brayda said that the group received confirmation for the venue yesterday, leading to the tweet announcing the event. She added that the group has contacted artists but is waiting until details are finalized before announcing the show’s featured artist.
“We don’t want to say anything until everything is finalized,” she said. “We will release that information as soon as the contract is signed and we know 100 percent that the artist will be coming.”
Though the group has less than a month to prepare for the event, they are up for the challenge.
“We have a very excited board who are planning already,” Odunaiya said. “We are on the balls of our feet and we are ready to start sprinting.”
Odunaiya added that BSCPB is also excited that the concert is scheduled for Halloween weekend, feeding off the hype of one of the biggest nights at Ohio University.
“(Students) should expect a lot of positive excitement and hype and we want to get everyone involved,” she said. “This will definitely be one of the bigger concerts that we’ve ever done. We just want everyone to be as pumped as we are.”
BSCPB will also continue the Battle of the MCs, a competition the group organized last year to give local hip-hop artists, and now singers, the chance to open for the featured artist.
Further details for the competition will be released at a later date.
