College of Business ranks sixth nationwide in annual survey

The Management Information Systems program in Ohio University’s College of Business was recently ranked sixth nationwide in the 2012 Bloomberg Businessweek annual ranking of the “Best Undergraduate Business Programs by Specialty.”

“We are obviously very pleased that it happened,” said MIS department chair Thom Luce. “It’s the first time that Businessweek has conducted specialty rankings and included management information systems.”

Hugh Sherman, dean of the College of Business, said in a statement that the ranking places OU’s MIS program as the “best in Ohio” and “strengthens the reputation” of the college.

Luce said that the ranking helps give recognition to years of hard work in the College of Business.

“We really work hard to find out what employers need and prepare students for jobs out there and I think we are doing a great job,” Luce said. “We are having very good success with companies coming down and really liking the students that come out of our program.”

The specialty rankings are calculated using survey data collected as part of Bloomberg Businessweek’s annual ranking of the top undergraduate business programs.

Senior business students from participating schools assigned grades to their business programs in 14 specialty areas and based on those grades, scores were calculated for each of the ranked schools in each area.
