DAVIS

Man faces up to 8-year sentence for bank robbery

A McConnelsville, Ohio, man could spend eight years in prison after pleading guilty to breaking into a bank in July.

Carl W. Davis, Jr., 25, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary for breaking into the Community Bank in Amesville on July 21.

Davis broke into the bank by cutting a hole into the floor of the apartment above the bank. He was later found lying in a closet of the bank by a bank teller, according to court documents.

Davis originally pleaded not guilty to the burglary charge at his arraignment hearing Aug. 1. He changed his plea to guilty Sept. 5 as part of a plea agreement with the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office.

As part of the agreement, Davis could be sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison and a maximum fine of $15,000, which is the maximum sentence for a second-degree felony, according to the Ohio Revised Code.

The agreement has a suggested sentence of four years in prison with no judicial release pending good behavior in prison by Davis, according to the agreement.

Davis is being held on $10,000 bond in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail until his sentencing hearing Nov. 1 at 9:30 a.m.
