On Friday night, Dave Rave and the Marching 110 will once again join forces under the spotlight.
“I’m really excited about it and I think it’s a great opportunity for the band,” said Brady Ratcliffe, a member of the Marching 110 drumline and a junior studying psychology.
Chad Vasquez, a member of the band’s drumline and a senior studying digital media, said the partnership was formed in hopes of raising money for the band’s trip to Europe later in the year in celebration of their 45th anniversary.
“(The audience) can expect the show to be like any other Dave Rave,” he said. “The only thing that’s different is that 100 percent of the cover charge will go to the Marching 110’s trip to go to Europe.”
The band will travel overseas to visit destinations including Ireland and Rome, and will also perform at a variety of sites.
“We will be playing at a few places, as well as just visiting,” Ratcliffe said. “But we need to focus on fundraising right now.”
Vasquez said he had the idea to collaborate with Dave Rave because the collaboration between the two worked so well during Halloween last year.
“I’m actually a DJ in Athens and I have had connections with Dave Rave for a while,” he said. “I brought up the idea and they said it was a great idea and it just went from there.”
David Alexander, half of the DJ duo, said he is excited for the show and considers it an honor.
“The biggest thing is that we just love what the Marching 110 does and we think they put on an awesome performance,” he said. “They represent OU and what OU is all about and it’s a big honor to work with them.”
Alexander added that he expects the show to be as rowdy and successful as the show during this past year’s Halloween party and that it would be a great opportunity for students to take their parents to a show highlighting some of the best things about the university.
“The crew really knows how to party and it’ll be a pretty rowdy event and will hopefully help (Marching 110) out with money,” Alexander said. “It’s also Parents Weekend, so if you’re looking for something to do with your parents, it’s a great opportunity to show them some of the best things at OU.”
