It’s become apparent that this year’s Student Senate is looking to define itself by the questions it asks and its willingness to encourage discussions that need to be had for the sake of the student body.
In the past three years, that’s not something we’ve seen from that body. In a way, it’s refreshing and necessary. We applaud the effort.
For that matter, we’d like to thank Pam Benoit and Stephen Golding for showing up at Wednesday’s senate meeting. Thanks for acknowledging the fact that student opinion exists, as we students fund a significant amount of what happens at OU.
Quite simply, all we ask is that Student Senate not become complacent. If you’re curious, ask questions. We’re not necessarily saying anything was accomplished the other night, but it was a start.
And administrators: Listen when Student Senate members come to you; they represent the rest of us.
One conversation at the beginning of the year isn’t enough.
