Sen. Sherrod Brown meets with students Saturday

Sen. Sherrod Brown vistited students Saturday in Baker University Center to thank volunteers and encourage voters.

There was little advance notice — the visit was announced midday Friday — and there was conflict with sororities' bid day and 10Fest, but about a dozen students attended Brown's speech.

Some of the attendees were members of the OU College Democrats.

Brown spoke about the affordability of education, with a focus on higher education, and how he has fought to maintain students' access to federal funding.

"Higher education is certainly in the public interest," Brown said. "We must make funding it a priority."

The race between Brown and his Republican challenger, Ohio State Treasurer Josh Mandel, has been one of the largest, most expensive political showdowns in this year's campaign season.

Ohio voters have been bombarded with political attack ads from both sides costing tens of millions of dollars in total.

Brown's visit continues the relatively short list of political visits from candidates, including Vice President Joe Biden, his son, Beau Biden and the son of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Craig Romney.
