PICKERINGTON—At Ohio University’s Board of Trustees Thursday academics committee meeting, trustees addressed the smoking ban recommendation from Ohio's Board of Regents and a dean search update.
Trustees agreed to put together a task force, headed by Ryan Lombardi, interim vice president for Student Affairs, to review the implications of enforcing a ban, Lombardi said.
Lombardi said he will work with other Ohio public universities in the Inter-University Council of Ohio to research the ban.
Lombardi also updated trustees on the number of offenses that have been processed in the Office of Community Standards and Student Responsibility.
He compared numbers to the previous five years, which showed an increase of marijuana use in 2010-11 and a slight increase in alcohol use during the 2011-12 school year.
Executive Vice President and Provost Pam Benoit updated on the new hires—including Kenneth Johnson as the new dean of OU’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine and Robert Frank as the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.
Search committees to fill the positions of dean of Scripps College of Communication, dean of the College of Fine Arts and a Regional Higher Education position all met in spring 2012 and are in the process to secure those positions.
