Ashley Young was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 20 years at her hearing Wednesday for killing her 4-year-old stepdaughter in May 2011.
Ashley Young, 27, of The Plains, took an Alford Plea agreement with the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office. As part of the agreement, Young admitted that the state has enough evidence to find her guilty of the five counts against her.
Young pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated murder, murder, child endangerment, tampering with evidence and attempted aggravated possession of drugs.
Young caused multiple life-threatening injuries to her stepdaughter Kaylen on May 23, 2011. Kaylen died of her injuries after being taken off life support at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus two days later.
Ashley Young will be eligible for parole after 20 years, but her attorney Herman Carson said it is unknown if it will ever be granted.
