A Columbus man was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to robbing two Ohio University students at gunpoint in July.
Domeion Mayo, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated robbery, two counts of abduction and one count of possession of marijuana as part of an agreement with the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office Wednesday.
Mayo and Adam Lawson, 24, of Columbus, were charged with robbing two OU students at their apartment at The Summit at Coates Run July 6. Mayo held a handgun to both the victims’ heads and told them to empty their pockets so he could rob them, according to court documents.
About 20 minutes later, Athens County Sheriff deputies arrested the two men while they were heading back to Columbus.
Lawson was charged with one count of robbery. He pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on his own recognizance after his arraignment hearing Aug. 29. His case is still pending. He is due back in court Nov. 13 for a preliminary hearing.
Mayo was sentenced to four years for the aggravated robbery charges, three years for the abduction charges and one year for the drug charge. The charges will run concurrently and he is eligible for judicial release after six months, according to court documents.
Mayo could have been sentenced to a maximum of 29 years in prison and a maximum fine of $62,500 if convicted of all charges at a trial, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
