An Athens man was arrested Wednesday afternoon by the Narcotics Enforcement Team following a tip that marijuana was being grown at an Athens residence.
After deputies drove by the residence and saw marijuana on the porch, a search warrant was executed at around 5:30 p.m., according to a press release from the Athens County Sheriff’s Office.
Phil W. Bell was arrested at the property on cultivation and trafficking charges and will likely face more charges from the university. A Phillip W. Bell is listed in the OU directory as an employee of custodial services. It could not be confirmed that they are the same persons.
About 20 pounds of marijuana was found at the residence.
Deputies from the team found "chemicals" and a set of master keys that are believed to be OU property at the Bean Hollow residence, according to the release, and Childrens Services was notified of the activity because the drugs were being cultivated in the presence of an infant child, according to the release.
Bell was transferred to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.
