Local authorities were called to the The Convo Saturday morning after reports of smoke and fire were detected outside of the entrance doors.
At about 3:00 a.m. Saturday, the Ohio University Police Department arrived on the scene to find activated fire alarms in the third floor lobby area and a “strong smell of smoke,” according to the OUPD incident report.
“Somebody was burning the ‘No Smoking’ signs on some of the doors,” said Captain Bruce Smith from the Athens Fire Department. “There was not big actual fire, but it could still be considered arson to some point.”
Though no one has yet been brought into custody, the person responsible could face destruction of property charges, according to the incident report.
This case is currently under investigation.
